Possible Outreach Post Office Service

Representatives from the Methodist Church and the Parish Council met with representatives of the Post Office Service, to consider the possibility of setting up a Post Office facility in one of the Brunswick Rooms. This would be held each Friday, from 10.00am to 2.00pm, with full Post Office services provided by the Post Office. Post Office Headquarters look upon the proposal favourably, subject to a full survey, and consultation period. If this goes ahead, we would hope to start the service early in the New Year.

The Celebration Weekend was very well attended, with visitors and members enjoying every part of it, including coffee & cakes and Ploughmen’s Lunches. The Celebration Service and Songs of Praise on Sunday completed the very special weekend. Donations of around £1,000 were given over the weekend, which will be used towards the cost of the new kitchen and refurbishing the Brunswick Rooms.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Macmillan Coffee Morning. £165 (plus Gift Aid) was given to help to improve the lives of people with cancer.

New minister

Tansley Methodist Church has a new minister, the Rev. Lyn Houghton, who is also minister of Bank Road and Matlock Moor churches. Lyn replaces the Rev. Steve Bennett, who, with his wife Liz, has moved to Nuthall, Nottingham, to a new post. In addition to her other commitments and regular preaching services, Lyn hopes to attend Friday coffee mornings in Tansley and other events in the village as often as possible. She will also lead Tansley School assemblies along with Rev. Richard Reade. Lyn, who is married to Mike, is a Chaplain for the Police and has been a Hospital and Prison Chaplain. [26/9/2010]
