Scarecrow Competition July 2017

Well done to everyone who entered the scarecrow-making competition! There were some amazing creations to fit in with the hobby and interest theme. The scarecrows have suffered a little in the recent rain and wind, but most have survived and are still worth a look if you’ve not managed to do so yet. The judges had a difficult task and as usual the results were very close and as follows:

Child entry:
1st Prize – Tansley Brownies for HRH Queen Elizabeth displayed at Tansley Community Hall
2nd Prize – 2nd prize Tansley Primary School for Geoff the lollipop man

Family entry:
1st Prize – 1 Oak Tree Gardens for The Queen’s Knickers
2nd Prize – 34 Riber View Close for Skating Scarlet
3rd Prize – The Cottage, Thatcher’s Lane for Poke-hay-mon

Adult entry:
1st Prize – Springwater Cottage, Oaksedge Lane for The Beast of Bentley Brook
2nd Prize – The Cottage, Green Lane for Nora Knit
3rd Prize – Spout House Farm for The Crazy Golfer

The judges very much enjoyed their walk round the village to look at all the scarecrows – the standard was extremely high in all categories and the scores were very close. It was difficult to find winners and we would have liked to award prizes to everyone! However, after a lot of discussion, the final results are as follows:

Child entry:
1st Prize - scarecrow number 11 at 10 Mais Close
2nd Prize – scarecrow number 18 at Tansley Community Hall
3rd Prize – scarecrow number 17 at Tansley Community Hall

Family entry:
1st Prize – scarecrow number 2 at Beech House, 2 The Knoll
2nd Prize – scarecrow number 14 at 1 Oak Tree Gardens
3rd Prize – scarecrow number 20 at Tansley Community Hall

Adult entry:
1st Prize – scarecrow number 12 at Spout House Farm, Spout Lane
2nd Prize – scarecrow number 4 at Springwater Cottage, Oaksedge Lane
3rd Prize – scarecrow number 10 at The Cottage, Green Lane

In addition the judges agreed on two special awards as follows:
Something for the ladies – scarecrow number 5 at Hunters Moon, The Knoll
Gentlemen’s choice – scarecrow number 19 at Tansley Community Hall
