Tansley House was built around 1890 as a hydropathic establishment to provide treatments, water cures, leisure and rest to rich Victorian and Edwardian industrialists. It had 11 bedrooms, specially equipped bathrooms and two ground floor treatment rooms.

It has since been extended and is now a residential home for the elderly.
