Tansley Remembered by Keith Taylor

Tansley Remembered

A local history book "Tansley Remembered" by Keith Taylor, was launched together with book signing at Tansley Village Hall on Saturday 8th October, 2005. On display around the walls were most of over 400 photographs included in the book.

With the photographs and 115,000 words of text, this 448 page quality book provides an evocative picture of life in Tansley and Lumsdale between 1880 and the present day for the cost of £10. School life, sporting and leisure time activities, work in the local mills, on the farm, at the sawmill, in the quarries, ropeworks, laundry and the shops are all brought to life. The lives and deaths of those from the parish whose names are on the local war memorial are recalled. The arrival of evacuees and the army, the antics of the Home Guard, Tansley's Fire Brigade and Air Raid Wardens are dealt with in detail.

Although the book may be out of print, copies are known to have been available at Scarthin's Book Shop in Cromford in late 2009.
