Trough or Well

On the Ordnance Survey map of Tansley published in 1879 the village is shown as having three wells and three troughs whilst the Ordnance Survey map of 1884 shows six wells but no troughs. The wells would be troughs at ground level with sometimes ornate surrounds but they and the troughs would be supplied by spring water from the hillside.
