Here are Dorothy and Kath petalling their beautiful 'The Lost Sheep' well-dressing for 2009.After enlarging the design and tracing it onto grease-proof paper, Dorothy and Kath lay the tracing over the clay and prick through the paper with cocktail sticks to carry the design into the clay. They then use black wool to highlight the shapes and to separate the in-filling materials. The sheep's coat in the clay is filled with Herdwick wool collected by Kath in Cumbria. The grass is fern leaves. These are lighter underneath and darker on top, so very versatile in use. The shepherd's skin is egg-shells. The sky is made from blue delphinium or hydrangea petals from a local garden. |
