MYSTERY OUTING ON FEBRUARY 16TH
2010 |
|
Marjorie reports:
"We had a lovely outing. The weather was
great after the frost and snow of previous weeks, I
think everyone was glad to be going out and socialising
again.
We had a mystery drive around the north
east of the county and ended up at Dobbies Garden Centre
at Barlborough where we had tea and lovely cakes.

What is the Tuesday
Club? |
The Tuesday Club is mainly for persons
over the age of 60, though the club also welcomes others
such as widows or widowers in need of
companionship. Members must live in Tansley.
Members of the club meet every fortnight
to socialise and chat. Once a month an outing is
arranged, usually with a lunch or tea included. At the
meetings held in the Tansley Village Hall there are
speakers, slide shows, demonstrations, quizzes, musical
afternoons, etc. See the programme of events
below.
In addition to all this, members of the
Tuesday Club also enjoy a five or six- day holiday to
the seaside every year to a first class hotel, usually
with evening entertainment (see article on the left-hand
side of this page for details of this year's
holiday). "Anyone interested
in joining the club would be most welcome. We are a very
friendly group," says Marjorie, who runs the club along
with Ruby.
Members are asked to help occasionally
with the washing and drying of the tea cups at the
meetings in the village hall. Tea hostesses are asked to
donate a raffle prize on their rota day, and other
members to donate one at a meeting during the year.

TUESDAY CLUB ENJOYS DAY OUT TO NATIONAL MEMORIAL ARBORETUM
|
|
Members of
Tansley's Tuesday Club greatly enjoyed their outing to
the National Memorial Arboretum on May 12th, 2009 as is
evident from the photographs of the occasion.
The coach left
Tansley at 2pm with about 40 people on board and arrived
at Alrewas, Staffordshire, the location of the
Arboretum, around an hour later. It was a gloriously
sunny, if somewhat windy, day, and the views from the
coach of the countryside in blossom were an added
bonus.
Coach driver
Ian Johnson, himself a Tansley resident, regaled
everyone with humorous tales about his recent holiday in
America, adding to the cheerful atmosphere.
The Arboretum
comprises 150 acres of trees and memorials devoted to
the concept of Remembrance. For further information take
a look at the official website: http://www.thenma.org.uk/

Tansley Tuesday Club chairman
Marjorie Ramwell informs us that this year's cream tea
afternoon in the Village Hall was very successful,
raising £410 for club funds.

many people there and especially pleasing to welcome
quite a lot of non-members....Thanks to all who
contributed in any way in making the afternoon very
enjoyable."
All the money raised will

TANSLEY
TUESDAY CLUB CELEBRATES 25 YEARS!
|
|
Tansley's Tuesday Club
celebrated its 25th anniversary on 29th September with a
party and entertainment for 55 people in the Village
Hall. Special arrangements were made to include in the
guest list five people who used to attend the club but
had not been able to get to meetings more
recently.
Tuesday Club Secretary
Marjorie Ramwell said: "The club was started by myself
and Ruby Gratton in September 1984 and replaced the
long-running Darby and Joan Club which had disbanded due
to lack of members. We started with 65 members plus a
waiting list of people wishing to join.
"Over the past 25 years we
have had over 190 members on our books. We have met
fortnightly either in the hall or on outings. We have
had slide shows, speakers, demonstations, sing-alongs,
and quizzes to name but a few of our activities, and
have visited stately homes, museums, been on boat trips,
rail trips and picnics. The list is
endless...
"We have also had 22 Tuesday Club
holidays all over England, Scotland and Wales and have
visited many towns and beautiful villages.
"At the moment we have 55 members.
Anyone over 60 would be welcome to come along to our
meetings to see how we function and hopefully join the
club. We are a very friendly group."

TUESDAY CLUB MEMBERS ENJOY WONDERFUL
SEASIDE HOLIDAY AUG 30TH-SEPT 4TH 2009
For photos click HERE |
|
|
|
Tuesday Club members had a wonderful
holiday this summer (August 30th -September 4th
2009) in Lytham St Annes.
Reporting back from the trip, Marjorie
Ramwell said: "We had a really
wonderful time, with a good hotel, very nice food and
excellent entertainment every night in the hotel. The
weather was a bit showery but we never got wet because
when it was raining we were either in the coach or in
the hotel.
"We had four excursions - we visited the
Lake District, The Yorkshire Dales, The Forest of
Bowland in Lancashire, and Fleetwood Shopping
Village. Some members enjoyed swimming in the hotel
pool. We all had an excellent holiday."

TUESDAY CLUB ENJOYS
MYSTERY TRIP... |
|
Where did the Tuesday Club go on its
Mystery Trip on 7th July? Majorie has now revealed the
mystery destination. On return from the outing she sent
the following report:
" After setting off in the rain the
afternoon turned brighter and we all enjoyed our Mystery
Trip around north Nottinghamshire, passing through some
beautiful villages and lovely scenery. We had an
afternoon tea, consisting of sandwiches, pork
pie, sausage rolls, and bowls of chips, followed by home
made scones with cream and jam, cakes and freshly picked
strawberries, at Christy's tea room at
Hockerton. "We arrived back in
Tansley at 6.45pm where it was still raining. We
had a really sunny afternoon." |
|
.... AND HAD
A BRILLIANT DAY OUT SKEGNESS
|
|
The Tuesday Club had a brilliant
day out in Skegness on June 23d. Marjorie Ramwell
reported back that the weather was
"perfect".
Marjorie said: "We left Tansley
at 8.30am and after stopping for coffee on the way
we arrived in Skegness at 12 noon. Most members
had fish and chips for their lunch (a must when
you go to the seaside!) and spent the afternoon
sitting in the glorious sunshine. Some members
paddled in the sea.
"We left Skegness at 5pm,
stopped at a pub for light refreshments and
arrived back in Tansley at 8.15pm. We
couldn't have wished for a better day's
outing."

TUESDAY CLUB FUNDRAISING
AFTERNOON RAISES £393
The Tuesday Club's Fundraising Afternoon
on June 9th 2009 was a great success, raising £393.
Marjorie Ramwell thanks everyone for their generosity.
The money will help the club to cover hire charges for
the hall and subsidise its Christmas festivities.
There were a few tombola prizes left over,
so the Tuesday Club will set up a stall at its meeting
on July 21st in the hope of raising a few more
pounds. Chris Knightley took some excellent
photos at the Fundraising Afternoon. Click
HERE to see them.
