VEOLIA BID UNSUCCESSFUL BUT "WHERE THERE'S A
WILL THERE'S A WAY"! |
|
Tansley Village Hall Committee reports
its disappointment at hearing that its application
to Veolia Environmental Trust for a grant of £50,000 was
unsuccessful.
Tansley Village Hall's application was
one of many turned down, but Veolia gave no details as
to why. A formal letter received by the committee
implies that, owing to the number of rejections, no
further details will be forthcoming.
Commenting on the outcome, Village Hall
Committee chairman Ruth Cooper said: "This
does feel like a setback but we all remain committed to
the project. We couldn't have got where we are today
without the tremendous support we have had from the
community; we would like to thank everyone who has
contributed, either by organising events or attending
them. "I strongly believe in 'where
there's a will there's a way', and with that in mind we
have already identified other potential sources of
funding and are in the process of putting more
applications together. Most are for
smaller sums than the WREN and Veolia bids but they all
add up.

TANSLEY VILLAGE HALL WINS
£5,000 GRANT FROM DERBYSHIRE COMMUNITY
FOUNDATION
| |
|
The
Village Hall Committee has received written confirmation
of the award of £5,000 (the maximum possible grant) from
Derbyshire Community Foundation for the rebuilding and
enlargement of the toilet extension and the new, fully
accessible front entrance. This is the Village Hall
Committee's Stage 1a Restoration Project starting on
12th July, as announced in March.
Derbyshire Community
Foundation said "Despite the limited funds and strong
competition, the panel were very supportive of your
application. They felt that the Village Hall is an
important facility in the village" and is well
used."They liked that you had split the restoration work
into smaller manageable projects that the committee can
aim towards as a longer term goal."
After many applications
for larger sums, the Village Hall Committee is very
pleased and encouraged to have received this maximum
award from a Derbyshire funder. It brings the total of
awards from all external funders to £11,000. All of this
money will go towards the cost of the Stage 1a project,
this summer.

The Restoration
Project - Stage
One |
|
Stage One of the Village Hall Restoration Project
will:
- demolish, rebuild and enlarge the subsided toilet
extension (reusing the existing facing gritstone and
most of the internal fittings), giving a well located
DDA-compliant toilet for disabled users (and a
pull-down baby's changing table), two extra ladies'
WCs and wash basins, a men's WC, two urinals and wash
basins. It uses skylights, rather than windows, for
natural light and strong security;
- provide a remodelled, universal front access with
a new outward-opening door (with vision panel), a
sloped approach (without steps) and a wider internal
doorway to meet fire exit safety standards and to
provide excellent access for both wheelchair users and
able-bodied people.
- replace the old, continually
leak-prone ground floor roof with new (and reused)
slates and underfelt, renew fascias, flashing, gutters
and downpipes (all in durable aluminium) to prevent
damp and replace rotten or damaged rafters;
- apply roof insulation for the first
time (to save energy);
- add skylights fitted with self-cleaning glass and
blinds towards the rear of the main hall to increase
natural light (and save energy) and to create a
lighter and more attractive space.

VILLAGE
HALL GETS £25,000
LEGACY FROM MRS BERYL
UPRICHARD |
Local resident Beryl
Uprichard has left £25,000 in her will to Tansley
Village Hall. The Village Hall Committee was informed of
the legacy in a solicitor's letter.
Beryl, who died on 4th July
2009, aged 85, used to live at 'Rotherwood' on the
Nottingham Road before moving into the Ivonbrook Nursing
and Residential Care Home in Darley Bridge when she
became ill with lung problems. Beryl had no children and
no surviving relatives in the UK. She was aware of
the financial needs of the Village Hall, and also left
legacies to other bodies. She and her husband formerly
owned the Matlock Mercury. They moved to this area in
1975.
The Village Hall Committee is extremely grateful
for this tremendously generous gesture by Mrs
Uprichard.
