Results of the Scarecrow competition 2010,
announced 19th June at the Summer Fete

[Report received from Emma Hrubiak, with thanks]

There are 15 scarecrows in and around the village – why not have a stroll and take a look at the wonderful creativity! Here is a link to the map showing the scarecrow locations and competition entry form.

Although the number of entries this year has been a little disappointing, 15 when before we have had 30 or more, the standard is extremely high. The three local judges, artist Polly Morten, sculptor Stuart Marsh and lifelong resident of Tansley Margaret Fearn, had some very difficult decisions to make but they do have a robust scoring system to make it fair. Thanks very much to them.

1st Prize (winning the Craig Hardy Trophy) – Neil and Sarah Green for Postman Pat and his black and white cat, and his van
2nd Prize – Val Wildgoose for the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party
3rd Prize – Josie Cross, Lots of Pots for Gloria the bomb disposal expert from Luton
Special Children’s Award – Tansley Preschool for a school crossing patrol
Special Children’s Award – 1st Tansley Brownies for a Brownie celebrating 100 years of Brownies

Congratulations also to all the other entrants.
